First with the important part, the ride today. Another day of potentially good weather made us decide to head up high again. We left part of the Mid Mountain trail untrodden yesterday as we headed down at The Canyons so we decided to head up at the Canyons and do an out an back on what we had not ridden yesterday. The place we start was right where the gondola also starts that takes people right up to the mid mountain trail. We gave it a quick though but then headed up the trail. The climb was actually nicer, a bit less altitude to gain, we started a couple hundred feet higher and ran into the mid mountain a bit lower, so we only had to climb about 1200 feet and it was over about 3 miles or so. I was actually in my middle chain ring for the better part of it. The first picture is one of the switch back on the way up. There was also less traffic, just a few bikers and a few hikers. We headed out the Mid Mountain and were treated to more rolling buff single track going between aspen glades and more exposed "view points." It did start to sprinkle on us and it looked a bit dark behind us so we decided to put on the rain covers for the packs as you see in the second picture. We took the trail a bit past where we probably should have turned around so we got a bonus downhill, and the resulting climb of about 400 ft out of there. We got back to the point where we joined the mid mountain and still had about 3 miles of mid mountain between where we had descended yesterday and met it today to cover. Howie's back was feeling OK so we decided to do the 400 ft climb and see what the trail was like. It was graded quite nicely again so no major hardship getting back to Holly's downhill that we took down yesterday. Although we would be pushing 20 miles of almost all single track if we took this straight down, we opted to cut across the mountain and climb another 300-400 ft and descend a different set of trails, Robb and Rosebud something or other. About 22 miles total, an estimated 2500-3000 feet of climbing (I have not downloaded the track from the GPS yet) and about 4.5 hours on the trail. Another ride that did not suck.
A few notes from camp. The trailer is really starting to feel like home as we find the most workable places for all our stuff. We picked up a few floor mats for inside and outside the doors as well as a few extra ice cube trays and cleaning supplies. Its also been 6 rides since we left home so I was outta clean riding clothes after today. We had been keeping our dirty clothes in a mesh bag in a rubbermaid bin in the storage area. Anybody who has been around howie knows that you do not want his dirty clothes anywhere near your living area due to his sweat. Im still not sure I want my clothes in contact with them, but what can ya do. I have to give kudos to his wife Joanne for dealing with this grossness on a weekly basis. Anyways, I headed over to the laundry facility with our container, its only two wash machines and two dryers and one of each were already in use. So I started a load, got about 2/3 of the stuff in but no way all of it was gonna fit. So I hung out, got a couple phone calls made and met a few of the other campers. A few other notes on the camper, Ive noticed the ice cubes looked a bit different than at home and realized they are actually clearer, due to the really nice water filter system Howie picked up at the suggestion of his most awesome neighbor, Don Gordon. The water tastes great too. We've been starting to anticipate how things will go once we start getting a few more people in there with us, but I think that will work out just fine. For dinner we went back to the burger thing, how Howie manges to get such a thick burger done to perfection without burning the outside or loosing the juiciness is amazing. The salad was also great, but if your not a garlic fan, stay away. we certainly dont have to worry about any vampires around here.
